Utsav Title SXSW
We shot and animated this title sequence as our entry into Title Design
category for SXSW. Utsav is a story of a 10 year old boy who constantly mentions the friends he
meets at his favourite carnival park. Some of them nice, and some not so. As his psychologist
struggles to find out if the park is real or is it all a figment of this 10 year old’s imagination. Our goal was to design a sequence that blurs the lines between reality and imagination depicting the state of
boys mind. And yes, definitely inspired by Stephen King.
Tech:
Footage was shot in 4K RAW SLOG and graded using LUT’s in Adobe Premiere. The
colors were oversaturated to render a surreal quality to visuals. The animation was done in After
Effects as the separated colour channels come together piece by piece to create and reveal each
shot. The camera movements adds to the spooky feel by constantly moving in a dizzying fashion and
merging from one visual to another.
